Silenos is a three-way floor-standing loudspeaker. Silenos is a bass reflex loudspeaker with a Scan-Speak chassis. The loudspeaker contains the following loudspeaker chassis: - a Scan-Speak R2604/832000 tweeter - a Scan-Speak 12W-4524G00 midrange speaker - a Scan-Speak 22W-4534G00 woofer The loudspeaker was developed by Gerd Lommersum and Dennis Frank. The crossover consists of: - a 3rd order high pass (18 dB / octave) for the tweeter. - a band pass consisting of a 2nd order high pass (12 dB / octave) and a 3rd order low pass (18 dB / octave) for the mid-bass loudspeaker. - a 2nd order low pass (12 dB / octave) for the woofer. The kit comes with a circuit board specially milled for the Silenos, which makes setting up the crossover very easy. The frequency response of the loudspeaker is perfectly linear. The decay spectrum is almost flawless: it is flawless above 1 kHz. The non-linear distortions at low volumes (85 dB, 1 m) are below 0.5% above 200 Hz and remain below 1.3% in the audible range even at higher levels (95 dB, 1 m). Above 200 Hz they even remain below 0.15% at 85 dB/1m - that is absolutely top class
The high-end kit is equipped with baked enamel coils to reduce the microphonic effect (the current through the coil generates a magnetic field, which in turn sets the winding in motion. This movement induces voltages in the coil, which are added to the useful signal. The tighter the winding of the coil, the less the useful signal is distorted.) The capacitors for the Scan-Speak R2604/832000 - where quality is particularly important - are high-quality Clarity Cap ESA capacitors with 250 V.
